Depression & Anxiety

Depression & Anxiety

Depression and anxiety are two of the most common mental health issues for which individuals seek counseling.

Strategies for depression include taking back the time and energy that's been consumed and replacing it with thoughts that help you find yourself, instead of feeling lost and powerless.

Depression and anxiety are two of the most common mental health issues for which individuals seek counseling.

Strategies for depression include taking back the time and energy that's been consumed and replacing it with thoughts that help you find yourself, instead of feeling lost and powerless.

Strategies in helping clients with anxiety include exercises in breaking down bigger tasks, prioritizing problems, or managing social situations more effectively, (which can often be harder done than said).

These are examples, and are just a couple of ways to successfully move forward through these issues.

Depression and anxiety CAN be managed, and is one of our specialized services.

Family Counseling can increase and improve communication between family members, and strengthen the family bond. Our  goal is to make each member feel heard by working with family members both as individuals, and as a whole, so that everyone is included in building strategies. that work.

Through the use of modeling, families learn that treating each other a bit differently can increase the quality of communication, and elicit more insightful responses from young people who may not know the words they need to use.

Let's reduce member conflicts, show tweens and teens that they are 'seen', work with them to better understand the parent/guardian stressors and obligations that they often don't understand, and give everyone new tools for better game nights.

LGBTQ, blended, and racial and/or culturally diverse families may experience additional issues. We welcome, and have experience in these areas, as well.

If you are homeschooling during Covid, you have a challenging situation that no parent was taught how to navigate. And for parents who felt less than successful when they were in school, this is likely a very difficult time for you both. You are not alone.

In truth, there are many additional behavioral, developmental, and social issues that affect our young people and we'll help sort it all out if you need a hand.

Questioning one's identity is also  common in adolescence, and if your child or teen could use someone to help navigate these areas when they become more challenging, we'll help them understand that there is no 'normal', and each of us are worthy and valid, no matter who we are.

Grief & Loss

Anger & Conflict

One of the most difficult experiences in life is losing someone important, such as a family member, a friend, a pet, or another person who's impacted our life in some way.  Even those who've hurt us leave, and we feel real feelings because they won't ever be able to fix it, or change.

The feelings we experience can be loneliness, anger, blame, guilt, or responsibility (either for something we did or said, or something we didn't do or say).

There is no doubt that everyone deals with loss differently, and coping isn't always easy. Maybe it's been a long time, or maybe it's something new.

Grief and loss shouldn't cause you to lose what matters most to you.

Painful and/or traumatic memories can remain with us long after the experience is over. These debilitating flashes or memories (triggers) can pop up unexpectedly, affect many areas of our everyday lives, wound our current relationships, likely coming and going with little warning.

This might be why they feel so debilitating, as if we can't move past them. The good news is that we can.

Feelings of anxiety, panic, deep sadness, and anger are a few of the emotions that can linger and hinder our progress. We can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grieving, healing, and long-term positive steps to a better life.

With time and attention, we can reduce the severity and frequency of trauma related PTSD symptoms.

Anger is an emotion that affects everyone differently, and can create unnecessary conflict, even leading to violence. It can cause us to make poor or unhealthy decisions, act in destructive ways, or say things we cannot erase once they are said.

Anger is an emotion that affects everyone differently, and can create unnecessary conflict, even leading to violence. It can cause us to make poor or unhealthy decisions, act in destructive ways, or say things we cannot erase once they are said.

Some of us lash out, some of us shut down, others are angry all the time for what feels like 'no reason'. And believe it or not, anger can feel like something else entirely.

Whether at work, in social situations, or dealing with a significant other, we can learn to recognize the moments when we need to think before speaking, express our feelings constructively, and get positive resolutions that lead to better daily interactions.
